How GluayGluay.com got 100,000 fans on Facebook

GluayGluay.com, the fastest growing car insurance website in Thailand, has over 100,000 fans on Facebook. While, sure, that’s far fewer fans than some of the bigger, more established brands in Thailand — at the time of writing SCB has 1,425,018; KBank 1,423,557; Samsung Mobile 1,411,090; Tesco Lotus 1,107,121 and Agoda 409,100. Among the car insurance players with strong online presence (mostly non-life insurance brokers), GluayGluay.com come out tops with 100,150; Directasia 50,198; Askhanuman 43,513; Silkspan 19,430; Prakunrod 2,754 and TQM 2,434. For a fairly new brand in the market…a six-figure fan club is a pretty big deal.

“Some kind of magic”
When someone’s Facebook page has over 100,000 likes, I need to ask how they did it. Once you turn your business, your brand, on with social media it explodes faster than you could've ever thought possible! More than we’d ever imagined,” commented Laurent Junique, GluayGluay.com’s CEO — but it’s also one of strategy. “We stick to a simple concept of bringing fun to everyone rather than promoting our car insurance comparison services.”

Starting in early 2013, Laurent and GluayGluay.com’s Assistant Manager of Operations, Ms Vichada Chaipatavee built on the site’s social integration with an aggressive Facebook-based marketing campaign, creating posts and ads to capture the interest of the site’s members. When they began those efforts, GluayGluay.com had only 10,000 or so followers. For the statisticians out there, that’s about a 1,000 percent increase.

“Engagement”
One of the best performing post, got 59,121 likes, 6.515 shares and 3,673 comments, eventually led to more than 800,000 people viewing this post. Which comes back to the idea that engagement, as notoriously difficult as it is both to inspire and to measure. It doesn't happen just by putting up an image with a line of text. It takes more than that. You have to get people’s attention.
